A former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

This comes after he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, News About Nigeria reports.

Orji was issued the APC membership card by the state chairman, Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu.

The former speaker stated in his letter, “After careful consultation and personal decision, I have decided to exit the PDP. It’s time to move on with our lives.”

His defection follows that of other top PDP members, including former chief of staff to ex-governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Anthony Agbazuere, and former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Eze Chikanmayo, who joined the APC last month.

In related developments, the 2023 Deputy Governorship Candidate of the PDP, Dr. Jasper Uche, has resigned from the party.

His resignation letter, addressed to the PDP Chairman, Umuaku Ward, and copied to the state chairman, stated, “This is to notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from today…I thank the party for giving me the platform, which culminated in my nomination as Deputy Governorship Candidate in the 2023 general elections.”

Additionally, a former member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikechukwu Nwabekee, representing Osisioma Ngwa North constituency, has dumped the PDP.

In his resignation letter, he stated, “The firm resolve to withdraw my membership is without prejudice to my friends, associates, and numerous supporters who might have different opinions, as I seek for new challenges…I thank the party for giving me a great platform to perform, including rising to the position of Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly.”
