Ooni Calls For Unity Among Yorubas

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has appealed to the Yorubas to be united, stating that it is the only way to move forward, News About Nigeria reports.

He made this call while speaking at the sixth edition of the Omoluabi Royal Icon Award, held at his palace on Monday.

He maintained that the unity of the Yoruba race is vital for the progress and development of the South-West Region, and therefore urged stakeholders in the region to rally the best among the race for its development.

Ooni, who was represented by his spokesperson, Moses Olafare, noted that when disunity exists among the people, it then becomes impossible to progress.

“Of course, the unity of Yoruba is not negotiable because it’s the best way to move forward and progress. When the people are not united, the course of moving forward becomes a problem,” he said.

He also commended the impact the programme has had in the lives of the Yorubas since its inception six years ago, maintaining that it has done well for the unity of the race and has gone a long way as a rallying point for the people, particularly youth in Yoruba land.

Also speaking, the President of the Yoruba Council Worldwide, Oladotun Hassan, condemned the move by Yoruba Nation agitators, and others who attacked the Oyo State Secretariat.

According to him, the movement agitating the Yoruba Nation is abnormal, and urged the people to support President Bola Tinubu, who hails from the region.

“We must continue to condemn the invasion of the government secretariat in Oyo; we must steer clear of the movement agitating the Yoruba nation; the move is abnormal,” he said.
