RCCG Complex Sealed In Lagos For Wastewater Pollution

The administrative and kitchen complex of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Jesus Sanctuary, located in Masha, Surulere, Lagos, has been sealed off by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office.

News About Nigeria reports that this action was taken in response to a public complaint received from concerned residents regarding the indiscriminate discharge of wastewater into the environment.

The seal on the complex was enforced in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.

The announcement was made by the state commissioner for environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab, through his official handle on X platform on Saturday.

“Following a public complaint received from concerned residents, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office #lswmomedia in enforcing the provisions of the Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017, sealed off the administrative and kitchen complex of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Jesus Sanctuary, Masha, Surulere, Lagos for indiscriminate discharge of wastewater into the environment,” the statement read.

In the statement, Wahab said that the illegal discharge of wastewater poses serious risks to public health and the environment.

According to him, such actions contribute to soil pollution and groundwater contamination, which can lead to the spread of waterborne diseases like cholera, dysentery, and diarrhoea.

“Illegal discharge of wastewater into the environment endangers the lives of citizens as it leads to soil pollution and groundwater contamination; causing waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and diarrhoea.”

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office urged all residents to refrain from engaging in activities that lead to environmental pollution.

Additionally, they encouraged the public to report any instances of illegal discharge or pollution to the appropriate authorities.
