Ekiti Airport Not Functional - Fmr Minister

The former Minister of Health and Social Science, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, has stated that the airport in Ekiti State is not functional in any way, News About Nigeria reports.

He stated this on Thursday, after being conferred with an honorary Doctorate Degree of Doctor of Laws by the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) at the grand finale of its 28th convocation ceremony.

He noted that making the airport functional will be of great benefit to the people as it will pave the way for networking, opportunities, and businesses, which will further attract more foreign investors.

He therefore called on the governor of the state, Biodun Oyebanji, to make the functionality of the airport a priority, adding that he is a humble man and will be able to pull through the challenge.

“I flew from Lagos to Akure yesterday for 30 minutes. I can assure you that 65% of those who flew from Lagos to Akure yesterday were coming to Ekiti State.

“Ekiti does not have an airport. We don’t have an airport and Ekiti is a very well-endowed state.

“The Governor of the State, Biodun Oyebanji, should prioritise the issue of the airport because if the Airport is open, it will open up opportunities for networking, businesses, and also investments from investors,” he stated.

Recall that the Ekiti State Airport was inaugurated in October 2022 by Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation.

Mr. Sirika, who performed the official inauguration of the airport, was among the personalities on board the aircraft, which flew all the way from Abuja to make the historic landing on Ekiti soil.

However, the airport has not been functional since its inauguration, as people still have to use Akure Airport when coming to the state.
