Lagos Government Arrest 219 Persons For Crossing Expressways

The Lagos State Government has arrested and prosecuted 219 people for crossing different expressways in the state.

According to the spokesperson for the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, Lukman Ajayi,  the arrest was made in March 2024.

Ajayi revealed that the persons were arrested in Oshodi, Dopemu, Ikeja, Ikorodu Road, Ketu, and Ojota areas of the state.

He further noted that the 219 people arrested have been prosecuted by the state for flaunting the laws of Lagos State.

Ajayi also stated that the arrest would continue as long as the people did not obey simple rules and regulations that were meant for their good and safety.

The spokesperson questioned why some people—including parents—would bring their kids across a 10-lane expressway when there are pedestrian bridges they could use.

He, therefore, charged residents to adhere to the law and stop crossing expressways when they can easily ply the pedestrian bridges.

He also advised parents to cease crossing the expressways with their kids and to counsel their wards against doing so.

Ajayi reiterated the agency’s commitment to saving lives by enforcing laws in that regard.

He added that no offender will be spared, as anyone caught would be arrested and severely punished.

News About Nigeria gathered that the Lagos state government’s move to arrest people crossing expressways instead of using pedestrian bridges comes as numerous residents have lost their lives and continue to jeopardise their safety.

Despite the installation of pedestrian bridges at key locations, many residents choose to disregard them and instead, dash across highways, risking their lives.
