Obasanjo Tasks Governors To Emulate Otti In Stopping Pensions For Ex-Governors

Don't Lose Faith In The Country – Obasanjo Urges Nigerians

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday tasked state governors to emulate the Governor of Abia State by stopping the payment of pensions to former governors, News About Nigeria reports.

Obasanjo, who described the payment of pensions to former state governors and their deputies as outrageous, noted that it is not in any way helping the governing of the state.

The former president, who said this when he paid the Abia state governor a visit at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of the state, also described the pension as “a daylight robbery.”

He further lamented the fact that former governors get their pensions while other Nigerians are not able to get their payment because they are part of the masses.

He said, “I watched the television and I saw the repealing of Abia pensions and I asked you what exactly is this, and you said to me that the pensions scheme for former governors here was too outrageous. It’s like trouble because it allowed them to have a house in Abuja and elsewhere, and it allowed them to cart away with whatever they can, yet the pensions of ordinary people from 2014 are unpaid.

“What sort of leadership? You came and said there would be an end to that rascality. I congratulate you, and I say to you, I hope that your colleagues will follow in your footsteps.”

Obasanjo, therefore, lauded Governor Otti for his style of leadership and for putting the people of Abia state first in his leadership.
