Peseiro Laments Super Eagles Failure To Win AFCON

On Tuesday, the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, lamented the Super Eagles’ failure to win the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy.

According to Peseiro, he is saddened by the team’s inability to bring the cup back home to Nigeria from Cote d’Ivoire, where the tournament was hosted.

News About Nigeria had earlier reported that Cote d’Ivoire had on Sunday night won Nigeria 2-1 in the final match played at Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan.

Peseiro, while expressing his grief over the Eagles’ loss at the AFCON, noted that the team, including the players, did very well from the beginning to the end of the tournament.

Speaking to newsmen after the visit to the presidential villa where President Bola Tinubu awarded everyone in the Super Eagles team the title of Member of the Orders of Niger (MON), Peseiro added that he was confident that the team played well even in the finals.

He said, “About the final, if you ask me, I think we did a fantastic job. My boys did 100 percent, same for my staff and the NFF. Of course, I would have liked to bring the cup to the Nigerian people, but I’m sad about that. But of course, I’m happy because I think we did a fantastic job.”

He also appreciated President Tinubu for honouring him and his team members with the award, adding that it was his first time enjoying a presidential treatment from any president.

“First of all, I would like to say thank you to the President. I am 60 years old, this is the first time some president has invited me to his house. It’s an honour and pride to me from the President of the Republic of Nigeria for the invitation to come here,” he stated.
