Helicopter Crash: Peter Obi Mourns Herbert Wigwe’s Death

Former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, expressed deep sorrow on Sunday over the death of Herbert Wigwe, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc.

News About Nigeria reported that the incident, which occurred near the border of California and Nevada on Friday night, also claimed the lives of Wigwe’s wife, son, and three others, including Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former chairman of NGX Group Plc.

In Obi’s condolence message, shared on his X handle, he described the loss of Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and son, along with Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former group chairman of NGX Group, as profoundly felt across the nation.

Reminiscing about his early connection with Wigwe, Obi wrote, “I first met Herbert during his early days, on the brink of starting his marital journey. I vividly remember assisting him in preparing for his traditional wedding and being there for the ceremony with his wife, Chizoba, from Achina, Anambra State.

“Since then, I’ve maintained a connection to his endeavours in my own modest ways.”

The former governor praised Herbert Wigwe as a determined and forward-thinking individual who led Access Bank to new heights, following in the footsteps of his brother, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede.

Obi emphasised the loss of an exceptional individual, urging people to live with purpose and contribute to the betterment of humanity.

Obi extended his heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Herbert Wigwe’s family, Access Holdings, and everyone mourning the irreplaceable loss.

He concluded the message by asking for God’s grace and eternal rest for the departed souls.
