The Labour Party and other opposition parties in Rivers State have condemned the re-screening and confirmation of the pro-Wike commissioners who resigned, News About Nigeria reports.

The Labour Party (LP) and other parties made their dissatisfaction with the State Assembly known, maintaining that the decision to recall the commissioners who left on their own accord was illegal.

According to the spokesperson of the Labour Party, Gogo Wellington, the issue of reinstating the commissioners is a constitutional one and has already been brought before the court.

He added that the courts should be allowed to make their decisions without any interference from the state government.

Wellington also expressed his support for the protest from various quarters in the state against the re-screening and confirmation of the commissioners, stating that it has already been made clear by the law that anyone who defects to another party without any internal crisis in his party should be ready to give up his position.

“For the protest, the people are right, because the law is very clear that if you defect to another party, you are ready to vacate your seat if there is no internal wrangling in your party,” he said.

In the same vein, the state chairman of the Zenith Labour Party, Ben Ogbobula, noted that the commissioners, through their actions, were insulting the sensibilities of the citizens of the state.

According to him, they should be aware of the laws that they are supposed to protect and make, adding that the courts should be allowed to make pronouncements on the issues since most of the matters are already in court.
