In line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu after his intervention in the crisis that rocked the Rivers State House of Assembly, the House has finally screened and confirmed the nine commissioners who were loyalists to the former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike.

The commissioners resigned from Governor Simnalayi Fubara’s cabinet in the last quarter of 2023, following the rift that happened between the governor and his predecessor, who is the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

News About Nigeria recalls that a crisis rocked the state following the alleged move by the FCT Minister to impeach Governor Fubara and the then Speaker of the State Assembly, Ehie Edison.

However, President Tinubu was able to intervene in the crisis that lingered for some months and ordered that the commissioners who left Fubara’s cabinet be reinstated while the governor also re-presented the state’s 2024 budget, which he had presented to four lawmakers loyal to him.

On Wednesday, the nine commissioners were screened by lawmakers in the state led by the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, at the Assembly quarters along Aba Road, Port Harcourt, the state capital.

During the screening of the commissioner nominees, the lawmakers gave them a clean bill of health after they made a brief introduction of themselves.

This, according to the House Leader, Major Jack, was because they had thoroughly screened the nominees previously before their resignation during the crisis.

After the screening, the Speaker of the House directed the Clerk of the House, Emeka Amadi, to forward the names of the commissioners’ designates to the governor for action.
