I Will Continue To Protect Patriotic Supporters - Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared himself the winner in the ongoing political crisis rocking the state, News About Nigeria reports.

Addressing the situation during a crossover church service at St. Paul’s Archdeaconry Parish in Opobo Town, Governor Fubara claims that he remains in charge as the governor, despite facing opposition from the camp of his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The political feud led to factionalisation within the state House of Assembly, with lawmakers loyal to Wike initiating an impeachment notice against Governor Fubara.

The conflict escalated, prompting some lawmakers to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), while others declared their seats vacant.

President Bola Tinubu intervened in the matter, facilitating the withdrawal of the impeachment notice and other resolutions.

Despite the turmoil, Governor Fubara has now declared himself the winner of the power struggle.

In a statement issued by the governor’s media aide, Boniface Onyedi, Governor Fubara said that the ongoing crisis would not hinder the state’s development.

He assured the people of Rivers State that his administration would continue working for the good of the state, with a solid foundation laid in God.

Fubara expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his intervention, describing him as a responsible father.

He pledged genuine support for the president’s programmes, emphasising the sincerity of the state’s commitment.

During the church service, the Bishop of the Diocese of Niger Delta, Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, delivered a sermon on the theme “I will never forget you”.

He assured the faithful that God would restore Nigeria to its expected height of glory and economic stability in 2024, emphasising the providence and guidance of God for those who put their trust in Him.
