TUC Laments Persistent Naira Scarcity

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has lamented the persisting scarcity of Naira in the country, stating that it has plunged the country into a lot of difficulties, News About Nigeria reports.

The TUC made its position on the cash crunch known in a statement signed by its President, Comrade Festus Osofo and Secretary General, Comrade Nuhu Toro, on Friday.

The Congress noted that the continuous scarcity of the Nigerian currency showed a lack of empathy for Nigerians by the agents and agencies of the government, adding that it was both insensitive and heartless.

It was also noted that it has been extremely difficult for people to access their money from banks and ATMs, which has left them no choice but to rely on the operators of POS, who are making them pay exorbitant charges to be able to withdraw their money.

Osofo maintained that the naira scarcity remained both unfortunate and unacceptable, stressing that the needless and excruciating hardship caused by insensitive and heartless agents and agencies of government, whose actions and inactions are really difficult to fathom and impossible to defend, must be brought to an end.

He therefore called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to find a lasting solution, get its monetary and fiscal policies right, and work in the interest of the long-suffering people.

He also urged the president to call the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to order, stating that if actions are not taken, the Congress would be forced to consider other options.
