Gombe Lawmakers Approve 2024 Appropriation Bill

One week after the Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Yahaya, presented the 2024 budget to the State House of Assembly, the House approved the state’s 2024 budget estimate of N208.064bn, News About Nigeria reports.

Although the governor had earlier submitted a budget of N207.750 billion, the approved budget reflects an additional N300 million, which makes a total of N208.064 billion.

This, according to the lawmakers, is to cover up all that was not properly funded in the budget.

The approval of the state’s 2024 budget was made known by the Chief Information Officer of the House, Umaru Ma’aji, in a statement released on Wednesday.

The statement, which contained the breakdown of the budget estimate, shows that the budget is targeted at completing all ongoing projects in the state, beginning with the ones started during the first term of Governor Yahaya.

According to the statement, in the state’s 2024 budget which is tagged ‘Budget of Continuity and Consolidation’, 43 percent of the budget is for the economic sector, while 11 percent will go to the social sector.

Also, the Speaker of the Gombe Assembly, Abubakar Luggerewo, thanked the lawmakers in the statement for their support, cooperation, and how the appropriation bill was handled promptly and adequately.

He further lauded the governor for his commitment to ensuring that he delivers his promise to the people of Gombe as contained in the 2024 budget.

The Gombe Assembly Speaker also charged Governor Yahaya and his cabinet to work judiciously with the approved budget and deliver their promises to the people, noting that the Assembly would give the Governor all the support needed to build the state.
