Oyo Police Detain Officers Caught Begging Money From Female Biker

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the officers that were caught on camera begging for money from a female biker rider who was travelling through Nigeria after leaving the Netherlands.

News About Nigeria gathered that the incident, which was captured on camera along Oyo State’s Moniya Road, sparked outrage from the general public and prompted police intervention.

The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, addressed the issue on Thursday, stating that disciplinary actions would be taken against the implicated officer.

In a post on the microblogging app X (formerly known as Twitter), the police reassured the public of increased supervision and urged them to report any misconduct to the Xsquad hotline.

The police confirmed that all those who were involved have been arrested.

“Viral video portraying the regrettable misconduct of certain policemen along Moniya-Iseyin Road has been accessed. All those involved have been apprehended for immediate disciplinary actions. Supervision will be increased. Please report any misconduct to Xsquad on +2348023535470,” the post read.

The video, lasting 1 minute and 26 seconds, captured the officers stopping the Dutch tourist along Moniya-Iseyin Road, and questioning her about her origin and destination.

The female biker, hailing from the Netherlands and en route to Abuja, seemed surprised by the officers’ inquiries.

Speaking in pidgin, the officers requested money and valuables from the tourist, saying, “Wetin you bring come? Wetin you won give me. O yah give me something nah.”

Despite initial confusion, the officers explicitly demanded money, to which the tourist responded with a puzzled “Why?”
