Nigerian singer Terry Apala has recounted his absent father reappeared after 17 years only to die the same day of his return.

News About Nigeria gathered that in a chat with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the ‘Apala’ crooner disclosed that his father was largely absent from his life, and he had no relationship with him.

According to Terry Apala, his father reappeared 17 years after abandoning the family, only to pass away on the same day he visited.

“My dad was not there [for me]. He was not there. He was just somewhere, living his life. I have no relationship with him at all,” Terry Apala said in the interview.

The singer detailed the unexpected reunion with his father, stating, “I left my dad in 1990, and the day I saw my dad was the day he was dying. He came all the way from Apapa to our house in Mushin.”

He further explained that his mother, upon learning of his father’s presence, instructed him to ask his father to leave.

However, Terry Apala’s father insisted on waiting until the mother returned.

The reunion took place with just Terry Apala, his father, and their youngest sibling.

The singer described the emotional moment when he woke up to find his father unwell. Despite the strained relationship, he expressed a sense of pity for his father in his final moments.

“He slept on the bed with my junior brother. I think he was throwing up when I woke up. It was very touching. Even though I didn’t really feel bad because this man was not there, but, you know, you go pity person wey don die,” Terry Apala shared.

The singer revealed that his father seemed to have an awareness of his impending death.

“So, that was the day I saw my dad last. From our house to the mortuary,” he said.
