Kano: NNPP In South-West Knocks APC, Court of Appeal Over Judgment

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the Southwest has criticised the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano state over the judgment of the court of appeal that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was not a member of NNPP.

The party secretary of the NNPP, Dr Babatubde Oke, stated that the court and the APC have no business with anyone who is not a member of their party, News About Nigeria reports.

Oke made these comments in Ibadan, Oyo state while reacting to the court of Appeal’s acceptance of the tribunal judgment that declared Nasiru Gawuna, the APC candidate, as the winner of the governorship election held on March 18, 2023.

He further explained that political parties have power over their affairs, and no court interference is allowed in the leadership or membership of the party.

According to him, this has been demonstrated by the judgments of higher courts in Nigeria. He pointed out that it is surprising that the court in the same country and with the same judges could pass different judgments.

He urged the APC not to destroy the judiciary.

Dr Oke revealed that the NNPP had requested the certified true copy of the Kano State membership registration submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the election.

In the documents attached to the statement signed by the INEC, the name of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, was clearly shown on 56209 of the NNPP members’ registration.

However, the APC and the Appeal Court claimed that Governor Abba Yusuf was not a member of the party.

Dr Oke stated that the NNPP would reject any judgment from the Supreme Court that goes against their party’s beliefs, as political parties have power over their affairs.

The NNPP is willing to take charge of all fees and awaits quick action from the INEC in providing the certified true copy of their updated party membership register.
