Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party (LP) vice presidential candidate, has broken his silence about his brother working for President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

On Monday, Datti stated that he is unconcerned about his brother, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, being appointed as Special Adviser on Political Matters to Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

News About Nigeria earlier confirmed that Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the spokesman for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), announced his position as a member of Tinubu’s cabinet on his official X page on September 18, 2023.

Hakeem, in the X post, stated that now is not the time for fence-sitting or criticism and urged Nigerians to pray for him and the country as he takes on the appointment.

In an interview with Arise TV, Datti expressed that his objection is not intended at the government’s appointments but rather against the President and Vice President themselves.

The vice presidential candidate of LP went on to say that because his elder brother is an adult, he is entitled to his own rights and life choices.

“I’m after the government, not an appointment. I am after the President and Vice-President and cannot come down to discuss any appointments. Hakeem is by far my eldest brother, thus there is no other way to state he is an adult with his own rights and a life to live. Our politics are absolutely disjointed. It is his employer I know, not him”, Datti-Ahmed stated.

The Labour Party VP nominee further noted that giving his senior brother an appointment is the least of his worries, pointing out that he is not worried about any appointment and if the Presidency likes, they can go and take the entire Baba-Ahmeds and make them ministers.
