Poverty Will Leave Nigeria Soon - Tinubu Tells Senators

Former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani, has warned President Bola Tinubu to cancel plans to purchase a Presidential yacht.

According to Sani, it is wrong to waste such a huge amount of money on a presidential yacht when Nigerians are struggling to survive.

He further stated that the poor cannot be struggling for survival while the President is acquiring a yacht that cannot in any way help solve the current hardships the people are facing.

The former Senator, who said this in a post on his official X account, said, “The President should, without delay, cancel the purchase of that N5 billion Presidential Yacht. The poor can’t be struggling for survival in a canoe while their leader is yachting.”

News About Nigeria had reported that President Bola Tinubu had budgeted N5 billion for the purchase of a Presidential Yacht and another N5.5 billion for the Education Loan Fund as part of the implementation of the Higher Education Access Act, 2023, otherwise known as the Students Loan Act.

The budget for the Presidential yacht has reportedly passed the second reading.

Also, popular activist Omoyele Sowore also kicked against the purchase of the yacht, accusing Tinubu’s administration of fostering a dynasty of thieves.

According to him, it is wrong for his administration to buy a Presidential yacht for a man who has never been to the stream before.

His post on his X account reads: “The @officialABAT dynasty of thieves! They want to buy a ‘Presidential Yacht’ for N5 billion for a man who has never been to a stream before. They want to renovate a Presidential Lodge in Lagos for N4 billion for a man who just built a mansion in Lagos stretching from Bourdillon to Queens Drive in Ikoyi.”
