Arsenal kicked off their 2023/24 Premier League season with a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest, News About Nigeria reports.

Bukayo Saka’s brilliant strike from outside the 18-yard box gave Arsenal a narrow win over the team that returned to the league last season.

The Gunners who finished second behind Manchester City last term, took an early lead through Eddie Nketiah, who continued his fine scoring form at the Emirates Stadium.

Saka doubled the advantage with a superb curling shot from outside the box that left the Forest keeper helpless.

However, Arsenal had to endure a tense finish after Jurrien Timber, their new signing from Ajax, limped off with an injury and Taiwo Awoniyi pulled a goal back for the visitors.

Arsenal held on to secure the three points and move level with City at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Nketiah told TNT Sport after the game: “We played well in the first half and got two great goals. They came back stronger in the second half and made it difficult for us. But we defended well and we deserved to win.”

Nketiah who has netted 14 times in his last 16 starts at home in all competitions, became the first Englishman to score Arsenal’s opening goal of a Premier League season since Theo Walcott in 2016-17.

Arsenal’s victory marks the continuation of their fine run in the last campaign and has been dubbed by many to win the English league title this season, after being denied the opportunity by treble winning Manchester City.
