Manchester United forward Luke Shaw recently took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message for his former teammate, David De Gea, who is set to depart from the club after an impressive 12-year stint.

News About Nigeria had earlier reported that De Gea‘s time at Old Trafford was coming to an end following the expiration of his contract.

Despite his achievements as the Premier League Golden Glove champion, the 32-year-old Spanish goalkeeper was not offered a contract extension by United.

Instead, the club opted to pursue a deal for Andre Onana from Inta Milan. Onana is expected to fill the void left by De Gea and is on the verge of signing a £50 million contract, pending the completion of formalities and medical examinations.

Amidst these developments, Luke Shaw, a prominent player for Manchester United, expressed his best wishes for his departing teammate through an Instagram post.

Shaw conveyed his message, saying, “Good luck in your next chapter, you will be missed.” In a lighthearted manner, he jokingly added a smiley emoji, stating, “But not your music.”

Shaw also expressed his admiration for De Gea and tagged himself as “honored” to have played alongside the Spanish goalkeeper for nine years.

He described De Gea as a United legend, emphasizing the significance of their partnership on the field. Over the course of nine years, Shaw and De Gea shared the pitch in a total of 209 matches, marking Shaw as the teammate with the seventh-highest number of appearances alongside De Gea.

Looking ahead, Luke Shaw now hopes to develop a similar bond with Andre Onana once the goalkeeper arrives in England. With De Gea’s departure, Shaw anticipates forging a strong connection with Onana, both on and off the field.
