Chelsea have officially announced the signing of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig ahead of the 2023/24 season, News About Nigeria.

Chelsea disclosed the signing on their official website on Tuesday, emphasizing Nkunku’s outstanding skills as an attacking player in European football and his potential to enhance the quality of the Chelsea team.

“Christopher has established himself as one of the standout attacking players in European football over the past two seasons and will bring quality, creativity, and versatility to our squad.

“He has showcased his abilities at the highest level with RB Leipzig and France, and we eagerly anticipate his integration with his new teammates ahead of the upcoming season,” the statement added.

Nkunku signed a pre-contract agreement to join Chelsea for the 2023/24 season on October 2, 2022, with Chelsea paying more than the €60 million (£52.7 million) release clause in his contract.

The 25-year-old, who has earned 10 caps for France, is a graduate of the renowned French national football academy at Clairefontaine and began his professional career at Paris Saint-Germain.

Before moving to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2019, Nkunku made 78 appearances for the PSG first team and contributed to three Ligue 1 title victories and two Coupe de France triumphs.

In Germany, Nkunku established himself as a household name and gained a reputation as one of the finest forwards in European football. During the 2021/22 campaign, he scored 35 goals in all competitions.

That same year, Nkunku was named Bundesliga Player of the Season and German PFA Player of the Season, while also winning the DFB-Pokal.

In the 2022/23 season, Nkunku added 23 goals to his tally, aiding Leipzig in securing a third-place finish in the German Bundesliga and retaining the DFB-Pokal.

According to the versatile attacker, the English Premier League (EPL) is one of the strongest leagues in the world, and joining Chelsea represents an exciting move for him.

He is eager to meet his new teammates and showcase his creativity on the pitch.

“I am incredibly happy to be joining Chelsea. A tremendous effort was made to bring me to the club, and I am looking forward to meeting my new coach and teammates and demonstrating to the Chelsea supporters what I am capable of on the pitch.

Nkunku’s contract with Chelsea will commence on July 1 and will run until the summer of 2029.
