Former President Muhammadu Buhari has granted national Honours to David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, and Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen, News About Nigeria reports.

These Honours were bestowed upon the duo in recognition of their remarkable contributions in their respective fields of music and football.

Buhari, who served as the President of Nigeria for two terms over the past eight years, handed over power to Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday.

Davido, a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer, has been awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) for his record-breaking achievements in the music industry, both domestically and internationally.

One of Davido’s notable accomplishments was the release of his fourth studio album titled “Timeless” on March 31, 2023. The album comprised 17 hit songs, including popular tracks like “Unavailable” and “Kante.” Notably, the album featured collaborations with local and international artists such as Skepta, Angelique Kidjo, Asake, Focalistic, and The Cavemen, among others. The album’s tracks, including “Unavailable” and “Over Them,” gained significant global recognition and climbed the top charts across the music industry worldwide.

Similarly, Victor Osimhen, a Nigerian-Napoli striker, received the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) for his exceptional performances for both his club and country.

Osimhen played a crucial role in Napoli’s successful campaign, scoring the team’s 25th league goal of the season and contributing to their first Serie A Scudetto triumph in 33 years.

The Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs will present the awards on June 1, 2023. It is mandatory for the awardees to be physically present at the ceremony to receive their medals and diplomas.
