David Hundeyin Clarifies Police Declaration of Being 'Wanted' Over Whistleblower PIDOMNigeria's Trial

Investigative journalist David Hundeyin has confirmed that @PIDOMNIGERIA, the anonymous whistleblower known for exposing corruption within the Nigerian government, is alive and in detention.

This update follows concerns over PIDOMNigeria’s whereabouts after being reported missing since early August.

Hundeyin revealed that after mounting pressure from the public and intervention from notable figures such as Omoyele Sowore, Deji Adeyanju, and others, the Nigerian Police have confirmed that PIDOMNigeria is detained at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja.

In a recent tweet, Hundeyin stated, “A member of our intervention team on the ground in Abuja physically laid eyes on him a few minutes ago and she confirmed that he is alive and well. According to the Police, he will be arraigned in court next week.”

Hundeyin also mentioned that they are working on obtaining a copy of PIDOMNigeria’s charge sheet to prepare a bail application.

He urged Nigerians to maintain pressure to ensure the situation is handled transparently.

Earlier, News About Nigeria reported that Hundeyin raised alarms about PIDOMNigeria’s disappearance in a detailed Substack post.

He noted that PIDOMNigeria has been a significant thorn in the side of the Nigerian government, known for high-profile document leaks and exposés that have embarrassed officials at the highest levels.

These actions led to warnings from the presidency and other government bodies, citing the Official Secrets Act.

The whistleblower was reportedly arrested on August 5 in Port Harcourt and transferred to the FCID in Abuja, under the purview of the National Cybercrime Centre (NCCC).

Hundeyin’s attempts to access PIDOMNigeria’s X (formerly Twitter) account, after being approached by someone claiming to be a close associate of PIDOM, raised suspicions about government involvement in the case.

As the situation unfolds, the hashtag #PIDOM has trended on X Nigeria, with users expressing concerns and demanding answers.

Hundeyin concluded his update by calling for continued public awareness and action to protect whistleblowers and freedom of speech in Nigeria.
