The Federal Government declared Monday, June 17, and Tuesday, June 18, 2024, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid el-Kabir festival, News About Nigeria reports.
In the statement signed by the Ministry of Interior’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, on Friday, the Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulated all Muslim faithful in Nigeria and the Diaspora on the occasion.
The Minister tasked them with ensuring that even while they celebrate, they continue to imbibe the spirit of peace, kindness, and sacrifice, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.
Tunji-Ojo also urged them to use the period to pray for unity, prosperity, and stability for Nigeria.
He further noted that the Bola Tinubu-led government is committed to ensuring the safety of both lives and properties during the festival.
The statement partly reads, “The minister reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration was committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians. He further enjoined all Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to support, cooperate, and join hands with the president in his sustained efforts to diversify the economy and progressively accelerate the pace of the nation’s economic recovery.
“While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Minister advised all Nigerians to take responsibility in the resolve to hand over a prosperous Nigeria to the nation’s children.”
Recall that the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, declared Sunday, June 16, as the Eid el-Kabir festival today (Friday).
The Sultan, who said this in a statement released by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, Sambo Junaid, wished all Muslims well as they celebrated.
He further tasked them to continue to pray for peace, progress, and the development of the country.
