Monarch Gives Rationale Behind Pastor Adeboye's Action

The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon in Oyo State, Oba Francis Alao, has explained the reason why the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, sat on one of his palace chairs on a recent occasion in his domain, stirring conflicting reactions from Nigerians, News About Nigeria reports.

In a statement signed by the Monarch on Monday, addressing the viral video that has been circulating on social media concerning the action of the pastor, he said he offered one of his ceremonial royal chairs as a sign of honour.

Recall that social media had earlier gone agog when a picture of Oasror Adeboye sitting on the royal chair surfaced online.

Addressing the situation, the monarch, who is also the Deputy Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, stated that Pastor Adeboye had come to Orile-Igbon for an evangelism programme that was held on the playground of Olugbon High School, and he had welcomed the pastor into his house, where they spent time talking about Nigeria and Orile-Igbon before moving to the venue of the programme where thousands of people had already gathered.

He stated that he had offered the revered man of God one of the ceremonial royal chairs that are usually reserved for top dignitaries as a sign of honour, maintaining that the chair is not the particular one that is reserved for the Olugbon which cannot be shared with anyone because of its spiritual and historical significance.

He therefore appealed to Nigerians to understand the situation, noting that the royal chairs are provided in palaces to honour high-ranking dignitaries and not to desecrate the throne.
