A dog owner has been arrested by officers of the Lagos State Police Command after his three Boerboel dogs allegedly killed a security guard at Pinnock Estate in Lekki, Lagos State.
News About Nigeria gathered that the tragic incident occurred on Monday when the lifeless body of the guard was found surrounded by the three dogs.
In a now-trending video on X, it was reported that the dog owner had forgotten to chain the dogs, allowing them to roam freely, which led to the tragedy.
Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin revealed that investigations are ongoing.
Addressing speculations by netizens that the security guard might have been killed by a hit-and-run driver, Hundeyin noted that the police are working to ascertain the exact cause of the tragedy.
He said, “The dog owner has been arrested and is in our custody. Investigation is ongoing.”
The tragedy has sparked fresh concerns about pet control and public safety regulations in residential estates.
It is pertinent to note that, in recent times, there have been reports of dogs attacking their owners and even their children.
The repetition of such attacks by dogs on their owners or people around them have in most cases led to some persons kicking against their neighbours having dogs.
In some cases, the dogs become hostile and attack people around because they are not well fed and taken care of by their owners but in others, the reverse is the case as they can still become violent despite being cared for by their owners.
