Troops of the Nigerian Army have reportedly arrested a notorious terrorist leader identified as Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as Habu Dogo, News About Nigeria reports.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Edward Buba, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
He stated that troops in the Northwest made the arrest during the week. He noted that this achievement marks significant progress in the ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations aimed at weakening the combat capabilities of terrorists across the country.
Buba further explained that the arrested terrorist had been on the watch list of security agencies in both Nigeria and the Niger Republic due to his cross-border terrorist activities and was apprehended in Rumji Village in the Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
He added that other terrorists, including IPOB/ESN terror operatives, were also arrested.
The statement reads, “Habu Dogo is a wanted terrorist on the watch list of security agencies in both Nigeria and the Niger Republic due to his terrorist activities. Similarly, troops in the Southeast arrested seven IPOB/ESN terrorist commanders and operatives.
“The arrested IPOB/ESN operatives include Dr. Nnamdi Chukwudoze and Chigozie Ezetoha (AKA Chapet), who were arrested in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State. Others include Ngozi Chukwuka and Oyekachi Ohia, arrested in Umuahia South LGA of Abia State.
“Additional IPOB operatives arrested are Ifeanyi Eze, Augustine Udemba, and Onyedikachi Udemba, who were apprehended in Umunneochi LGA of Abia State. Elijah Mmaduipeya Obumneke was arrested in Orsu LGA of Imo State.
“Overall, during the period under review, troops neutralized 187 and arrested 262 individuals.”
