The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has lauded the peaceful conduct of the local government elections across the state’s 44 local government areas, News About Nigeria reports.

The governor made the remarks at the KANSIEC office after casting his vote in the Gwale LG on Saturday.

He commended the conduct of the voters and officials, adding that the election was free and fair.

Abba Yusuf also expressed his appreciation for the support of other states’ electoral commission chairmen who monitored the elections.

The governor noted that the elections, which took place in 484 wards across the 44 local governments, were the freest in Kano’s history.

He assured that those elected would serve the people’s interests and that his administration would ensure good governance.

He said, “This election is the freest in the history of Kano.

“When it comes to elections, there shouldn’t be any impunity, and we should ensure that people are allowed to vote for their mandate.

“I am appealing to the judiciary to continue being neutral when it comes to elections; it is not good for our judiciary to be partisan.

“Even though the Kano state government is the only government that came into office under the platform of the NNPP, we shouldn’t be intimidated. The people of Kano are peace-loving people, but if pushed to the wall, they can react.

“We’ve seen what happens in Rivers, so we took proactive measures to ensure that a similar scenario does not happen in Kano.

“I want to appeal to the opposition to always accept defeat as we have the upper hand in terms of voter support.”
