Former aide to Atiku Abubakar, Daniel Bwala, has accused governors of attempting to destroy the country’s democracy.

News About Nigeria reports that Bwala made the allegation while reacting to the move by 16 state governments in the Federation to file a suit at the Supreme Court to challenge the legality of the establishment of the country’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Reacting to this move, the lawyer and former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) noted that he believes it is a plot to frustrate democracy in the country.

He further accused the governors of failing to develop their states and pushing the responsibilities of governance to the Federal Government.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Tuesday, he said, “The governors in Nigeria, they are making concerted efforts to destroy this democracy. I have said when President Tinubu started, when these allocations started moving; when nobody was looking at the responsibility of the federating unit in administering governors, when all pressures were pushed and directed at President Tinubu.

“I said that we have taken our minds and attention from the fact that this allocation we are talking about – the majority of this allocation – goes to the state. The development is at the state level and local level and nobody cares to look at governors and probe them on their affairs.”

Bwala also accused the governors of masterminding some corruption in Nigeria, adding that it is because of this that they are against the EFCC and also pushing for its scrapping in order for them to continue their theft.
