Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has encouraged Nigerian youths to take an active role in politics to shape their future and make meaningful changes in society, News About Nigeria reports.

Speaking at a Church service held at The Transforming Church in Abuja on Sunday, Otti said it is important for the youth to participate in politics, stating that when people avoid politics, they allow politicians to make decisions on their behalf.

He urged the younger generation to take charge, saying, “Don’t shy away from politics. That is where decisions about your future are made.”

Citing Psalm 62:11, the governor reminded the congregation that ultimate power belongs to God and advised youths not to avoid positions of power, as they can be used to create big changes.

“You can make a lot of changes if you have power, and that is what politics will give you to create the changes you want to see in the lives of your people.

“This is because holding a political office affords people the opportunity to affect the lives of more people than one can imagine,” he said

Otti shared that his own decision to transition from a career in banking to politics in 2014 was motivated by a desire to make a difference in his state and country.

He said holding political office has provided him the opportunity to impact large populations with a single decision.

Otti also encouraged Christians to not only pray but work hard to achieve their dreams, noting that a combination of faith and effort leads to success.

During the service, lead pastor Sam Oye echoed similar sentiments, urging Nigerians to stay hopeful and committed to their aspirations while stressing the importance of being good to others.

Oye thanked Governor Otti for his visit and reaffirmed the church’s commitment to praying for leaders in positions of authority.
