The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has urged residents to disregard the sit-at-home order allegedly set for Monday and Tuesday, News About Nigeria reports.
The advisory came through a statement released by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, and shared with journalists in Enugu on Sunday.
The commissioner labelled the sit-at-home order, which was spread through a viral video, as “baseless and unwarranted”, and warned that any attempts to disrupt the state’s peace would face “decisive and ruthless action.”
He stressed that Enugu has moved beyond such illegal calls for lockdowns, often linked to secessionist movements.
Commissioner Uzuegbu reassured citizens that the police and other security agencies are fully prepared to safeguard the state, encouraging people to continue their daily activities without fear.
He also urged parents to caution their children against participating in activities that could threaten the state’s security, warning that legal consequences would follow such involvement.
He also encouraged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police, providing emergency contact numbers for immediate assistance.

Meanwhile, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful clarified that the group did not issue any sit-at-home orders for October 21 and 22.
He stated that the order originated from criminal elements and individuals based in Finland who are not associated with IPOB.
He urged the public to disregard the order and continue with their normal activities, adding that IPOB no longer calls for unnecessary sit-at-home actions.
According to him, anyone declaring such orders is a criminal, and IPOB refrained from discussing the issue earlier to avoid giving attention to the false orders.
