Democracy Under Attack, says Kaduna PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kaduna State Chapter, has stated that democracy in the state is under attack, News About Nigeria reports.

The Kaduna State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Edward Masha, stated this while speaking to newsmen in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area, on Friday.

He also refuted rumours making the rounds that he called on party faithful to boycott the Local Government elections that was scheduled to be held in all 23 Local Government Areas of the state on Friday.

He stated that the call for a boycott was neither made nor endorsed by his office.

He further explained that while the PDP’s agents at the State Independent Electoral Commission, SIECOM, office in Kaduna were inspecting sensitive materials before distribution, it was noticed that one of the most sensitive materials, the result sheets, was not included and was an anomaly.

He stated, “Two weeks ago, I had raised the alarm over plans by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to manipulate the elections by sneaking in a clause into the SIECOM election guidelines that would alter the process of announcing election results.

“My party will insist until all sensitive materials are included to ensure a level playing ground.

“The display of electoral fraud by the ruling party indicated that democracy is under attack in Kaduna State.”

He, therefore, called on all members of the PDP to come out en masse to exercise their franchise and avoid any acts that could breach the peace.

Recall that as of 7:30 am, the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission office was under lock and key while ad-hoc staff were looking helplessly.
