The Jigawa State Police Command on Thursday restricted all forms of vehicular movement from 12 am on Friday, October 4, 2024, to 6 pm on Saturday, October 5, 2024, News About Nigeria reports.

According to the police, the restriction does not, however, cover those on essential services or duties.

The restriction was communicated in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, on Thursday.

Giving details on the restriction, Shiisu states that only vehicles on essential duties or services, such as JISIEC officials, election observers, ambulances for medical emergencies, and firefighters, among others, are exempted from the restriction imposed on vehicular movement.

He also tasked political parties and their supporters in the state that the ban on political thuggery and use of weapons during elections is still in force, as anyone caught will be arrested and prosecuted.

The statement partly reads, “The political parties and their followers intending to use weapons and any kind of its kind are advised to refrain from such and strictly adhere to and abide by the rules and regulations governing the electoral process. Similarly, the Command warns all security aides and escorts from accompanying their principals and politicians to polling units and collation centres during the election period.

“The police as lead and law enforcement agency will not allow criminal elements who may take this advantage to foment trouble and violate the provision of the law as contained in the electoral act as amended. Anyone found wanting will be dealt with decisively. The Command, led by CP AT Abdullahi, wishes to inform the law-abiding citizens of the state to turn out in large numbers to exercise their civic responsibility, as the command has made adequate preparation to provide security for all law-abiding citizens.”
