President Bola Tinubu has appointed a governing board for the North West Development Commission (NWDC).
News About Nigeria reports that Tinubu submitted the names of the inaugural governing board members of the NWDC to the Senate for confirmation.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
The statement was titled ‘President Tinubu Appoints the Governing Board of the North West Development Commission.’
The statement said this follows President Tinubu’s signing of the North West Development Commission Bill into law on July 24.
Tinubu nominated Haruna Ginsau (Jigawa) as Chairman and Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji (Kano) as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.
Other members include Dr. Yahaya Namahe (Sokoto), Aminu Suleiman (Kebbi), Tijani Kaura (Zamfara), Abdulkadir Usman (Kaduna), Muhammad Wudil (Kano), Shamsu Sule (Katsina), and Nasidi Ali (Jigawa).
Onanuga stated, “The nominated board members are expected to contribute their wealth of experience and expertise to the Commission’s mandate of developing the North West region.”
He noted that the NWDC would focus on driving significant growth, economic empowerment, and social development in the region.
The President further pledged his unwavering commitment to supporting the NWDC’s mission to bring sustainable development to the North West.
In July, Tinubu signed the North West and South East Development Commission bills into law.
The southeast bill was sponsored by Benjamin Kalu, the deputy speaker who represents the Bende federal constituency of Abia State.
The bill was passed by the Senate and House of Representatives and transmitted to the president in June for assent.
The commission will receive funds to execute projects in the geopolitical zone.
