The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured voters that the results of the upcoming Edo State governorship election will be available on its iREV (INEC Results Viewing) dashboard, as long as there are no network issues.
Speaking on Arise TV, Anugbum Onuoha, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo State, confirmed that the commission will electronically post the results.
“Yes, unless there’s no network in that place,” Onuoha responded when asked if the results would be uploaded to iREV.
Onuoha further stated that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) would be used to authenticate voters and record the total number of votes cast at each polling unit.
“We will conduct an election we can truly call our own,” he assured.
He also revealed that INEC has deployed 4,622 BVAS devices across 4,519 polling units in the state’s 18 local government areas, with an additional 660 BVAS units on standby.
“At the end of the day, the results will be counted and uploaded to our iREV,” he said.
With over 2.2 million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected, key candidates in the race—Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP)—are vying for the position.
The winner will succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki, who is set to leave office on November 11 after completing his two terms.
In a related development, News About Nigeria reported that the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has cautioned political parties participating in the Edo election against electoral malpractices, including vote buying and inflammatory language.
Yunusa Z. Yau, convener of the Situation Room, raised concerns about the rising political tensions and the potential for violence in the state during a preliminary statement issued in Benin City on Friday.
