The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has deployed personnel to help in maintaining peace and order during the Edo State governorship election, News About Nigeria reports.

The Head of Media and Tactical Ops, NSCDC Anambra State Command, Okadigbo Edwin, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

He noted that the personnel were deployed to the State to support the Edo State Command and other security agencies in providing security for the electorate as well as officials taking part in the Edo State Governorship election on Saturday.

He stated that this development is in line with the directive of the Commandant-General, Dr Ahmed Audi.

He also urged the personnel to remain neutral as they carry out their duties, stating that neutrality and professionalism during the election remain important not only for the Corps but for the country at large.

He stated, “The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Olatunde Maku, said the deployment is in line with the directive of the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi.

“Debriefing the personnel, Maku emphasised the importance of neutrality and professionalism during the election.

“I must warn that your role in Edo State is to ensure a peaceful exercise. Do not compromise on the field, be transparent, but firm in discharging your duties.

“You are to operate within the code of conduct. Have it at the back of your mind that any act that could bring the Corps to disrepute would not be tolerated.”

He further urged the electorates to troop out in their numbers to exercise their franchise without fear of intimidation or molestation and to promptly report any crime or electoral offence they observe to law enforcement agents nearest to them.
