Ahead of the Ondo State gubernatorial election slated for November 16, 2024, the governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has received over 600 defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

News About Nigeria reports that while receiving the defectors, the governor, who was represented by the state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, assured them that they had made the right decision.

He noted that they will get the necessary recognition and support in the APC.

The governor also expressed optimism that the new members would add greater value to the party in the state.

He further tasked them to not just join the party but to come out in their mass on the day of the election to vote for the party.

He said, “For this crowd of people to come to the APC without any form of inducement or coercion, it shows only one thing that you (the leader of the defectors, Dr. Akinsola Jimoh) are a great leader and a grassroots politician, and we are proud of you. We have come here today and appreciate you for joining the winning team. You are talents that can’t afford to be in the opposition.”

On his part, the leader of the defectors and a former chieftain of the PDP, Akinsola Jimoh, explained that they decided to join the ruling party after due consultation.

Giving details, Jimoh noted that his resolve to join the APC is because of the leadership qualities of the governor, adding that he is determined to join the ruling party to join hands with the administration of Aiyedatiwa to develop the state.

“I decided to join the APC because I was impressed with the leadership qualities of Governor Aiyedatiwa since he took over the governance of the state,” Jimoh stated.
