One Dead, 10 Hospitalised After Bus Tyre Burst On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps says one person lost their life and 10 others sustained injuries in a tragic auto crash on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

News About Nigeria reports that Florence Okpe, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Sector Command of the FRSC disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

A white Mazda bus with registration number GGE 858 XY involved in the accident was said to have been travelling at high speed when one of its tyres burst, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to somersault.

The command spokesperson stated that the injured were taken to Patmag Hospital, Ogere, for medical care, while the body of the deceased was deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara Remo.

“A total of 17 people were involved in the accident, comprising eight male adults, seven female adults, one female child, and one male child. Sadly, one female adult was killed, while ten people were seriously injured (two male adults, six female adults, one male child, and one female child),” the statement reads.

“The injured victims were taken to Patmag Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention, and the body of the deceased was deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara. The suspected causes of the crash were speed, tyre burst, and loss of control.”

Following the devastating accident on Lagos-Ibadan expressway, the FRSC Ogun State Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, cautioned motorists to scrutinize their tyres.

He stressed checking expiration dates and tread depth, and avoiding substandard tyres, adding that attentive drivers can better handle tyre bursts, even at controlled speeds.
