The Lagos State Government has raised the fees for public secondary school boarding facilities in the state.

The Lagos State government announced that the revised fee, increased from N35,000 to N100,000, will take effect starting from the new academic session, which officially begins on September 15, 2024.

The revised fee was announced in a letter titled “Review of Boarding Fees in All Public Secondary Schools in Lagos State for the 2024/2025 Session,” issued by the Director of Basic Education Services at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Olufemi Asaolu, on Friday.

Asaolu’s letter regarding the fee increase was addressed to the principals of all public boarding schools in the state, following approval from the state’s Commissioner of Education.

News About Nigeria reports that the increase in school fees from N35,000 to N100,000 represents a 185.71 percent rise.

The letter partly reads, “I have the directive of the honourable commissioner to inform all public boarding house schools in Lagos state that the state government has approved the review of the boarding fee payable in all public boarding house schools in Lagos State. The newly approved fee is N100,000 only.”

Asaolu, however, explained that no extra fee of any form must be collected by the schools as school children resume for academic activities on September 15.

He noted that the new school fee is to cover all aspects and activities of the schools, including tuition, boarding fees, and uniforms.

He further tasked all parents and guardians to comply with the new tuition fee for the children/wards.
