General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has extended his condolences to the residents of Borno State and the state government.
The CDS sympathetic message is coming after the state and its residents witnessed a devastating flood that has ravaged communities and many areas, especially in Maiduguri, the state capital.
News About Nigeria reports that this is contained in a statement on Wednesday issued by the Acting Director of Defence Information information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau in Abuja.
The CDS expressed shock after learning the loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of about 200,000 citizens as a result of the flood from Alao Dam.
Musa assured the public that the Armed Forces of Nigeria would collaborate with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other relevant authorities to provide immediate relief and support to the affected communities.
The CDS ordered the Theatre Commander Operation Hadin Kai to offer all necessary assistance to victims.
“The military stands in solidarity with the people of Borno and will ensure all affected communities are evacuated to safety and, in addition, will give support on the ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts,” he said.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu directed the immediate relocation of those affected by the devastating floods.
Earlier today, the Nigerian army deployed its troops to lead the search and rescue operation to evacuate residents affected by flood.
The Alau Dam, which reportedly burst on Tuesday after being at maximum capacity for weeks, affected communities are Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin with the resulting deluge.
