The Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has announced the termination of the 17 Local Government Transition Implementation Committee Chairmen.

News About Nigeria reports that the dissolution is effective 6th September 2024.

The announcement was disclosed in a statement released in the late hours of Friday.

The committees were formed on 9th June 2023, with an initial six-month tenure, but their terms were extended multiple times until Friday night.

In the statement signed by his director of press and public affairs, Dr Gyang Bere, the governor instructed the directors of personnel management in the 17 local government areas to take charge of the local governments until elections are held on 9th October 2024.

The statement read, “Governor Mutfwang commended the Transition Committee Chairmen for their exemplary leadership and dedication to advancing developmental projects that have directly impacted their communities.”

“He expressed pride in their accomplishments and urged them to continue offering valuable counsel to promote peace and unity within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Plateau State.”

Governor Mutfwang also encouraged the former chairmen to work with their constituents to ensure the party’s success in the upcoming local government elections.

He thanked the people of Plateau State for their unwavering support, noting that the outcome of the PDP primaries for the chairmanship and councillorship elections reflects the deep connection the people have with the party.

The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to running an inclusive, transparent, and accountable government that serves the interests of all Plateau citizens.

In July, the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government should henceforth pay allocations directly to LG councils.

The seven-member panel of justices held that state governments have continued to abuse their powers by retaining and using the funds meant for LGAs.

The apex court also ordered the federal government to withhold allocations of LGAs governed by unelected officials.
