On Friday, the Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide announced that it has set up a planning committee for its late President General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu who died while still in office.

News About Nigeria reported that the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide died in July at the age of 82.

According to his family, he died after a brief illness.

Speaking at a news conference today in Abuja, the Acting National Youth Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, who made the revelation, also said that the group would immortalise Iwuanyanwu.

The decision to do so, according to him, is due to his over six decades of active service to Igbo land and Nigeria at large.

He also added that the Igbo leader was a key player in the development of the region.

He said, “We commend our late elder statesman for his personal investments to stabilise the leadership of the youth wing. We are in constant communication with Iwuanyanwu’s family and we are determined to accord him the highest honour due to his service to Nigeria.”

“On this note, we have set up a funeral planning committee for the purpose of celebrating his legacies, especially in the lives of the youths. We shall continue to update the public on this as we progress.”

The group, therefore, urged the general public and Ndigbo that Iwuanyanwu’s burial date and other plans would soon be communicated, as they are in constant talks with his family and the entire Igbo Nation for a befitting burial for the legend.
