The call for justice continues to grow following the tragic murder of Christianah Idowu, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
News About Nigeria reported that Christianah was brutally killed after being abducted by 23-year-old Adeleye Ayomide, despite her family paying a ransom of N350,000.
Christianah, who was undertaking her industrial attachment at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), was kidnapped along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos on August 19, 2024, while on her way to her internship.
Her abduction and subsequent murder have sparked widespread outrage, with both the local community and prominent Nigerian celebrities demanding justice.
Singers Ayra Starr, Simi, and Chike took to social media to condemn the horrific crime.
Ayra Starr posted, “Stop killing us! Stop raping us! Women deserve better #JusticeForChristianah.”
Chike expressed his frustration, writing, “Stop killing women!!!”
Simi shared a heartfelt message: “If hearing/seeing women cry, fight and beg for safety, protection for themselves with ALL of the evidence through ALL of time triggers you and makes you so defensive, you should wonder why. We’re not crazy. We’re afraid. To go out. To say no. To be. Our fears don’t negate your own personal life experiences. So when you mock other people’s extremely valid fears as though it erases yours, you seem weak and cowardly. Stop it.”
The Itaoluwo community, where Christianah lived, has been engulfed in grief and anger over her death.
The Nigerian Army arrested Ayomide in connection to the crime, and he has since been handed over to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation.
The police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest, and investigations are ongoing as the nation demands justice for Christianah.
Sharing a photo of the suspect, he wrote, “23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye has been handed over to #LagosPoliceNG by 9 Brigade #HQNigerianArmy. The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400hrs. Investigation is ongoing.”
