Nigerians are demanding justice after the shocking murder of Christiannah Idowu, allegedly at the hands of Adeleye Ayomide, a 200-level philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University.
News About Nigeria gathered that Christiannah, who was declared missing on August 19, 2024, was later found to have been killed after her parents had been contacted by her abductors.
According to reports, her abductors used her own WhatsApp account to communicate with her parents, initially sending photos of Christiannah in captivity via WhatsApp’s ‘view once’ feature.
They demanded a ransom of N1,500,000, but after negotiations, the parents managed to raise N350,000, which was sent to a betting account as instructed by the kidnappers.
After the family transferred the money, the abductors requested a bank statement of the sender be forwarded to an email.
However, after receiving the statement on August 23, communication ceased entirely.
During this time, the abductors transferred part of the ransom money to Christiannah’s GTBank account and then withdrew it into a Wema Bank account linked to the primary suspect, Adeleye Ayomide.
Nigerian intelligence operatives initiated an investigation on August 26, confirming that the BVN linked to the masked betting account belonged to the suspect.
They discovered that Ayomide had a mutual relationship with the victim, with both interacting on social media platforms, raising further suspicion.
Following a detailed investigation, operatives tracked Ayomide’s mobile phone to his family’s home in Ikorodu.
The Nigerian Army’s 174 Battalion moved in and arrested him.
Upon arrest, they found Christiannah’s phone in his possession, alongside incriminating evidence, including proof of the money transfer and a link to the betting account used to launder the ransom funds.
Email communications between Ayomide and the victim’s family were also uncovered.
After his arrest, on August 3, Ayomide reportedly confessed to killing Christiannah and burying her body in his family’s home.
Disturbingly, reports have also surfaced alleging that two other women close to the suspect—his ex-girlfriend in 2018 and his biological sister in 2020—died under similar circumstances.
The case has ignited outrage on social media, with calls for swift justice.
