Nigerian Fuji singer Sulaimon Alao Adekunle, popularly known as KS1 Malaika, has refuted rumours that his mother has passed away.
The speculation began when Azeez Malaika, a relative of the musician, posted a message on Instagram on Monday night, mourning the loss of his own mother.
In his post, Azeez wrote, “I never knew you would leave without saying goodbye, mother. The most painful part is that you left when I was not around. Unquestionable God. Rest well, mother.”
This led to confusion among fans and media outlets, many of which reported that KS1 Malaika had lost his mother.
To clarify the situation, KS1 Malaika took to Instagram to set the record straight.
He explained that while he and Azeez are indeed brothers, they do not share the same mother.
Malaika stressed that his own mother is very much alive and in good health.
He also criticised bloggers for spreading misinformation without verifying the facts.
“My mother is alive and healthy. Bloggers should do their findings before carrying any news,” he wrote. “Az is my blood but not the same mother.”
KS1 Malaika’s public clarification comes after years of speculation surrounding his personal life, including the completion of his N200 million home in Lekki, Lagos, in 2017.
Despite the buzz, the singer has consistently maintained that his success is the result of decades of hard work in the music industry, which he began at the age of 10.
In a 2018 interview, Malaika expressed frustration that some people doubted his ability to build such a home. He stated, “I have been in the music industry for over three decades. If someone has been doing something from such a young age and does it well, why wouldn’t he be able to build such a house for himself?”
He also clarified that he never disclosed the value of his home, and it was only after journalists contacted his engineer that the figure became public.
“I never gave anyone the figure, but my engineer later told me that some journalists called him, and he told them. I didn’t like it, and I warned him to always inform me whenever he wanted to answer questions about me,” Malaika said.
