The Osun Police Command has apprehended a 29-year-old commercial motorcyclist accused of robbing and raping a female passenger.

News About Nigeria reports that the police spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, announced the arrest during a parade of suspects at the state police headquarters in Osogbo.

According to Opalola, the suspect operates in Ile-Ife and allegedly robbed and raped a passenger he picked up from Obafemi Awolowo University Campus.

He said, “On July 26, about 7:05 p.m., the complainant hired a commercial motorcyclist (name withheld) from OAU Campus to Moro Town.”

Opalola stated that the suspect diverted into a nearby bush at RCC junction, Ilesa/Ibadan Expressway, and robbed the passenger of her valuables, including an iPhone XS Max, Samsung Galaxy A71, Airtel Wi-Fi, and N20,000 cash.

The suspect allegedly also forcibly had carnal knowledge of the victim without her consent and cut her pubic, armpit, and head hair, threatening to kill her if she reported the incident.

Opalola said the victim received treatment at the police hospital in Osogbo, while the investigating team arrested the suspect.

In a related development, Opalola announced the arrest of a suspect connected to a stolen minibus brought from Lagos to Osun for dismantling.

Another suspect, allegedly a member of the Black Axe/Aye Confraternity, was arrested for terrorising the Osogbo metropolis and environs.

Opalola stated that the suspect robbed a store, inflicted injuries on the owner and customers, and stole two iPhones.

A suspected member of the Black Axe confraternity, known as ‘Devil’, was arrested after a cult clash in Osogbo.

All suspects will be charged to court after investigations are complete, Opalola said, urging the public to provide information to help curb criminal activities.
