Emeka Beke, the reinstated All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Rivers State, says he is opened to collaborating with Governor Siminalayi Fubara under certain conditions.
News About Nigeria reports that Beke wants Fubara to extend an olive branch to the APC before they can work together.
Beke said he believes Fubara should be allowed to perform his duties as governor without interference.
He also dismissed any connection between Fubara and former Minister Rotimi Amaechi, his own leader.
Beke emphasised the need for cooperation, saying Rivers State is suffering due to ongoing political conflicts.
He urged all parties to focus on governance rather than politicking.
Fubara has been at odds with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, since taking office, with the dispute centred on control of the state’s political structure.
Despite efforts by stakeholders and President Bola Tinubu to intervene, the rift persists, affecting the state legislature.
According to Beke: “I worked with Rotimi Amaechi and he is my leader, and he has no link with Fubara.
“If he extends a hand of fellowship to APC, we will work with him and develop the state. We can’t continue fighting; Rivers is going backward.
“You can’t have two governors in one state, even if your own son is made governor, you should allow him to function.
“We have finished the politicking; it’s now time for governance.”
On Monday, the Rivers State High Court voided the appointment of a seven-member caretaker committee for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, led by Tony Okocha.
The court ruled that the committee’s appointment by the APC’s National Working Committee was unlawful.
The court reinstated the democratically elected APC executive in Rivers State, led by Emeka Beke, as the legitimate leadership of the party.
This decision was made in response to a suit filed by members of the elected executive.
