To ensure that retirees in the state receive their long-overdue pensions promptly, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has ordered the immediate release of funds to the State Pension Board, News About Nigeria reports.

Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse, the Public Relations Officer for the Office of the State Head of Civil Service, announced the governor’s directive in a statement on Friday.

The directive comes as a response to concerns raised by pensioners over the delay in receiving their entitlements.

According to the statement, the payment process will commence on Monday, August 12, 2024, beginning with retirees whose documentation is already with the Pension Board.

The governor’s intervention is expected to alleviate the financial difficulties faced by many retirees who have been waiting for their payments.

The statement mentioned that it is important to bring relevant documents to the Pension Board office in Dutse.

To streamline the process, the Pension Board has also scheduled a radio programme to announce the names of retirees who are eligible for payment.

Retirees are advised to listen to the broadcast, and if their names are mentioned, they should report to the Pension Board office with the required documents.

“All retirees should tune in to the upcoming radio programme where the names of those scheduled for payment will be announced. If you do not hear your name, please listen to the next broadcast,” the statement read.

These documents include work and retirement credentials, a bank verification number (BVN), and a valid form of identification such as a voter’s card, national ID card, driver’s licence, or office ID.
