On Wednesday, the Rivers State Police Command issued a warning regarding the #EndBadGovernance protests in the state, which have been compromised by criminal elements.

News About Nigeria reports that the force said these individuals are now targeting innocent motorists and business owners, causing chaos and destruction in the process.

According to SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s spokesperson, the situation has become increasingly concerning, prompting the implementation of measures to restore order.

She said the protests, which initially began as a peaceful demonstration, have degenerated into criminal activities, with hoodlums harassing law-abiding citizens and engaging in destructive behavior.

Iringe-Koko noted that the protesters have resorted to disrupting traffic, forcing motorists to adorn their vehicles with leaves, erecting canopies on main roads, destroying billboards, and threatening traders.

“Furthermore, they have set tires ablaze on the roads, creating a hazardous environment for all,” she said.

The spokesperson stated that the protest organisers are struggling to maintain control over the crowd, leading to a breakdown in law and order.

She stressed that the current situation does not represent a peaceful protest and urged the protesters to remain calm and peaceful.

Iringe-Koko advised protesters to confine their activities to designated areas, specifically Abali Park and Pleasure Park.

She warned that any further disruptions would be met with firm resistance, and offenders would face arrest and prosecution.

The police spokesperson appealed to parents to caution their children and wards, warning that the police would not tolerate any breach of the peace or unlawful activities.

In a related development, Iringe-Koko dismissed reports of an attack on the private residence of former governor Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt, stating that she was not aware of such an incident.
