Amusan Dominates 100m Hurdles Heat, Advances To Next Round

Tobi Amusan, the current world record holder, secured a spot in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m event at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

News About Nigeria reports that Amusan emerged victorious in her heat with a time of 12.49 seconds.

Alaysha Johnson from the United States trailed behind Amusan, clocking 12.61 seconds to take second place.

Janeek Brown of Jamaica also advanced to the next round, finishing third in the heat with a time of 12.84 seconds.

The trio’s impressive performances unfolded at the iconic Stade de France in Paris.

Meanwhile, Nigerian athlete Favour Ofili finished sixth in the final of the women’s 200 metres at the 2024 Paris Olympics, taking place in France.

The 21-year-old dipped 22.24 seconds to finish 6th behind Gabrielle Thomas of the United States, who took the title after clocking 21.83 seconds.

Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred took the silver medal with 22.08 seconds, and USA’s Brittany Brown completed the podium.

Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Similarly, Blessing Oborududu lost her fight in the Freestyle 68KG third-place fight in the wrestling event.

The Nigerian was beaten by Nonoka Ozaki in the Women’s Freestyle Wrestling 68 kg bronze medal match.

Nigeria is yet to win a medal at this year’s Olympics.

The trio and 12 others, including Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, advanced to Friday’s semi-finals.

They are to be joined by the next three fastest runners from the five heats, as well as those who will qualify from the repechage round by midday Thursday.

Races in the repechage round will take place on Thursday morning, with 21 runners fighting for three semi-final slots.

The event’s final will take place on Saturday.
